What is Nebosh?

The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) offers globally recognised qualifications covering health and safety and risk management. A significant number of health and safety job adverts specify NEBOSH qualifications, demonstrating the high standard of NEBOSH courses and training.

Course Overview

This certificate program is a blend of engineering and management skills. It focuses on the prevention of catastrophic accidents and near misses associated with loss of containment of energy or dangerous substances such as chemicals and hydrocarbons. This qualification is designed to provide a sound breadth of knowledge and understanding that enables qualification holders to contribute to the management of process safety risks.

Entry-level occupational safety and health practitioners, persons with occupational safety and health as a primary role within their organizations, members of occupational safety and health committees, safety and health representatives within organizations and persons wishing to change careers and work within an organization as a safety and health practitioner.

  • Passes in at least five CSEC/CXC subjects. The subjects must include English Language and Mathematics
  • Completion of the Basics of Occupational Safety and Health course is recommended

  3. Process safety hazard control
  4. Fire and explosion protection

After completing this program, participants will be able to:

  1. Outline the meaning of process safety and how it differs from personal safety.
  2. Explain the role of leadership in process safety management.
  3. Explain the purpose of organisational learning, the sharing of lessons learnt and sources of information.
  4. Explain how ‘change’ should be managed to effectively reduce risks to people and plant.
  5. Outline the benefits, limitations and types of worker participation and engagement.
  6. Outline what is meant by competence and its importance to process safety.
